Management of Storage Migrations –
On-Prem to Cloud

The Challenges

The client faced the challenge of fundamentally rethinking and modernizing its aging on-premises data center structure in light of modern cloud-based hosting and storage approaches. A key architectural focus was to consolidate existing data centers into a few central locations to increase efficiency. In particular, there were bottlenecks in storage availability in the R&D and production areas, outdated backup solutions, and an increased risk of data loss. The desire for greater flexibility, fail-safety, and scalability led to the decision to move key parts of the infrastructure to the cloud.

The Solution

We designed and implemented a fully virtual infrastructure landscape in the cloud that integrated seamlessly with the existing systems. In addition to pure data migration, we developed high-availability backup and disaster recovery concepts specifically tailored to the needs of critical production processes. Regulatory requirements such as GxP and internal IT governance policies were fully observed. Through close cooperation with the corporation’s global IT teams, we implemented a coordinated migration path without disrupting ongoing operations.

The Result

The migration significantly reduced storage costs, halved backup times, and ensured nearly 100% system availability. The new architecture enabled better scalability for future growth and fully met global compliance requirements. The IT department also benefited from reduced maintenance and more efficient administration of cloud components.
